India wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul and ace Australian pacer Mitchell Starc headlined the buys for Delhi Capitals on Day 1 of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. While Rahul and Starc were acquired for ₹14 crore and ₹11.75 crore respectively, Aussie youngster Jake Fraser-McGurk was retained for ₹9 crore using the Right to Match card.
Englishman Harry Brook was snapped up for ₹6.25 crore, while Indian players T Natarajan and Karun Nair were acquired for ₹10.75 crore and ₹50 lakh, respectively, in the latter half of the day.
Delhi Capitals also acquired the services of domestic players Sameer Rizvi ( ₹95 lakh) and Ashutosh Sharma ( ₹3.80 crore) respectively along with experienced pacer Mohit Sharma ( ₹2.20 crore).
Delhi Capitals have named Hemang Badani and Venugopal Rao as head coach and Director of Cricket replacing Ricky Ponting and Sourav Ganguly respectively. They have also roped in former India pacer Munaf Patel as the bowling coach.
Badani said, “Pretty elated with the buys. We have enough clarity as to how we go about in the auction. We’ve kind of reaped the rewards of being well-strategised and well-planned.”
