Actor Saif Ali Khan is recuperating in Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital after suffering multiple injuries from an intruder who attacked him with a knife during an alleged burglary attempt at his residence in the early hours of Thursday. The 54-year-old actor, who was stabbed six times, was rushed to hospital where he underwent a surgery and was said to be out of danger.
The incident has raised concerns about security even in affluent areas of Mumbai like Bandra. Several fans and netizens wondered how the burglar gained entry into the sprawling residence.
Saif Ali Khan’s house is in a 12-storey building in Bandra West, a super luxury apartment he purchased approximately 10 years ago. The building was constructed by Satguru Builders. Saif owns four floors of the building housing his residence.
As per reports, Saif Ali Khan’s apartment spans 10,000 square feet, featuring five bedrooms, a gym, a music room, and six terrace balconies. This luxurious residence occupies four floors. It is estimated that Saif’s house is valued at Rs 70,000 per square foot, while surrounding properties are priced at Rs 50-55 thousand per square foot.
Saif Ali Khan and wife Kareena Kapoor Khan previously resided in the Fortune Heights building in Bandra, which they purchased in 2013 for Rs 48 crore.
How The Attack Unfolded?
Around 2:30 am on Thursday, while the actor and his family were asleep, a thief allegedly gained entry to the house. The intruder was reportedly hiding in the room of Saif and Kareena’s youngest son, Jeh. When the house help noticed the intruder, she screamed, alerting Saif, who rushed to the scene. A struggle ensued, during which Saif was stabbed six times, sustaining injuries to his hand, neck, and back. One wound was reportedly near his spine.
The Bandra police reached the spot after receiving information and launched a probe into the incident.
Saif Ali Khan Health Update
Saif Ali Khan was admitted to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent surgery, which lasted approximately 2.5 hours. Doctors said that the actor received six stab wounds, of which two were deep. One of the deep wounds was close to his spine, Dr Niraj Uttamani, COO of Lilavati Hospital, said.
“He sustained six injuries, two are minor, two intermediate and two deep injuries, one of the injuries is on the back which is close to spine. A neurosurgeon was involved in the surgery,” he said adding, “The wrist wound is also deep. It’s on the left hand and requires a plastic surgeon to repair it.”
After the medical procedure, Saif and Kareena’s team issued a statement mentioning that the actor is out of danger.
“He is currently in recovery and the doctors are monitoring his progress. All family members are safe and the police is investigating the incident,” the statement read.
Thanking neurosurgeon Dr Nitin Dange, cosmetic surgeon Dr Leena Jain, anaesthesiologist Dr Nisha Gandhi and the team at the Lilavati hospital, they said, “Thank you to all his fans and well-wishers for their prayers and thoughts during this time.”
Sources said that the police will also question the workers who had been visiting Saif’s residence since two days as floor polishing work was underway. Three staffers of the actor have already been questioned, while reports said that one female employee was also injured in the incident.
The actor’s representatives described the incident as an “attempted burglary”. However, there has not been any official word from the police. A senior police official said that no person has been arrested so far.
