Trisha Gongadi’s historic century powered India to a 150-run win over hapless Scotland during their women’s U-19 T20 World Cup match on Tuesday in Kuala Lumpur. After being sent into bat first in their final Super Six clash, the Indians, led by Trisha Gongadi, posted a mammoth 208/1 in 20 overs. Trisha Gongadi etched her name into history books at the women’s U-19 T20 World Cup when she pushed Maisie Maceira for a single through backward point to reach her feat in 53 balls on the final delivery of the 18th over. In the process, Trisha Gongadi also recorded the highest score by a batter in the tournament, surpassing England’s Grace Scrivens who held the record previously with a 93 against Ireland in the 2023 edition.
During her stay at the crease, the Trisha Gongadi smashed 13 fours and four sixes. In fact, the opening partnership between Trisha Gongadi and G Kamalini fetched 147 runs before the latter was dismissed in the 14th over.
India bundle out Scotland for just 58
In reply, Scotland just crumbled just like a pack of cards. None of the Scottish batters could put up a fight as they were bowled out for paltry 58 in exact 14 overs. Openers Pippa Kelly and Emma Walsingham were the top scorers with 12 runs each. Aayushi Shukla was the wrecker-in-chief for India with 4/8 while Vaishnavi Sharma and Trisha Gongadi took three wickets each.
Notably, the 19-year-old Trisha Gongadi India’s top performer in the U-19 T20 Asia Cup in the last year where she finished as the top run-scorer with 159 runs and played a crucial role in India’s triumphant run. She was also the part of the Indian team that won U-19 T20 World Cup in 2023 under the leadership of Shafali Verma.
