The days of ordering goods for delivery in a day or two from e-commerce companies are almost over. The new era is one of quick commerce, which delivers goods within 10 minutes of your order.
Recently, Swiggy Instamart CEO Sriharsha Majety said that though it may sound strange, netizens usually order bedsheets the most on the quick commerce platform.
Speaking at the CNBC-TV18 Global Leadership Summit, Majety said, “What do you think people want to order the most in 10 minutes? If I say that people are ordering bedsheets the most on Instamart, then who will believe it? But, it is true that on our platform, bedsheets are ordered the most for quick delivery.”
He added that earlier people used to search for batteries the most and now orders for bedsheets have increased. The line between quick commerce and e-commerce is blurring. Other e-commerce companies are also moving towards quick delivery.
“Our company cannot be everywhere, but other players are also jumping into this field and there is competition for quick delivery,” he said.
Speaking about his challenges as a CEO, Majety said, “Since we started the company, the biggest challenge in front of me was to take everyone along. As we moved forward, it became more difficult, but taking people along has become the secret of our success today. It is not always easy, but as the company grows, it becomes the foundation.”
Majety said that it is not that Swiggy and Zomato are the only players competing in the market.
“When Swiggy was started in 2014, there were more than 19 players in the market. Today the market of quick commerce has grown to 5.5 billion dollars (about Rs 50,000 crore rupees). Initially, it was used for the delivery of grocery items. Now it has started delivering electronics, clothes, and sports equipment,” Majety said.
