Sanjay Malhotra officially took charge as the 26th Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Wednesday, following the conclusion of his predecessor Shaktikanta Das’ tenure on December 10. Malhotra is scheduled to address the media around 3 pm.
Known as a ‘peacetime general,’ Malhotra assumes the role at a time when India’s economy is in a stable phase, with growing interest surrounding potential rate cuts soon.
This marks the beginning of Malhotra’s three-year term as RBI Governor. He becomes the second consecutive career civil servant to lead the central bank, having previously served as the Revenue Secretary.
